Beyond Barriers is a six-month one-to-one mentoring scheme available to any second year, third year and postgraduate students.
You will have the opportunity to receive tailored advice, sharpen your skills, gain real-world insight, and boost your confidence and resilience. Our mentors are external professionals who come from a vast range of industries. You and your mentor will be carefully matched and together you will discuss the skills and knowledge you hope to gain through the programme, and set out a development plan including activities, goals and timelines.
The scheme runs from November to May and requires a commitment of two hours per month as well as attendance at a mandatory 90-minute training session. At the end of the scheme, all participants are invited to a special award ceremony and presented with a certificate.
To take part in Beyond Barriers you must fit at least one of the following criteria:
· Black and ethnic minority students
· Commuter students
· Female science, engineering, maths and built environment students
· KU Cares students
· LGBT+ students
