Information on Participants:

Peter Spens is a leading British artist who has worked for the last 47 years directly in front of his subject. This includes series of large paintings from high viewpoints over London, such as Tate Modern, Millbank Tower, Shell Tower, the balcony at Shellmex and Brettenham House on the north west corner of Brettenham House. He is fascinated both by pictorial construction and the cityscape as subject.

Spens never works from photographs but is about absorbing environment with all the senses. He is fascinated by the temporal element of observation and views this as a kinetic process, describing his work as a temporal collage. To view Peter’s work please visit the Cranley Gallery Website.

Professor Maria Chatzichristodoulou: Dean, Research & Knowledge Exchange, University of the Arts London (Chelsea, Camberwell & Wimbledon Colleges)

Dr. Cathy Gale: Course Leader MA Graphic Design at Kingston University is engaged in a critical practice that employs the tools and strategies of graphic design to envision more expansive notions of the discipline. She set up the Alternative Art School as a radical pedagogic research project in 2014: a critical space for student autonomy and provocations across disciplines and institutions.

Martin Bright is a journalist with over 30 years of experience in national newspapers, magazines and television. He is also Executive Producer of the film Official Secrets (2019), which starred Keira Knightley as Iraq War whistleblower Katharine Gun. In 2009, he founded the youth employment charity Creative Society to help young people find work in the arts and media.

Over the next few months he will be hosting a series of conversations with prominent figures in the creative industries to stimulate discussion about new collaborative possibilities.
