With a focus on Print, Publication & Drawing, we will engage in a broad range of approaches and activities.
This three-day introduction to Fine Art: Print, Publication and Drawing is an exciting opportunity to experience Fine Art Practice at Degree level. You will explore a wide range of contemporary practices and concepts, building on your own Fine Art practice to question and respond to the world around you. With a focus on Print, Publication & Drawing, we will engage in a broad range of approaches and activities, both traditional to experimental to aid in the critical discussion and making of Fine Art.
Structured workshops, as well as multiple opportunities for self-led responses will allow you the opportunity to develop technical and conceptual skills in print making, publication design and drawing methods. This course will introduce exciting adaptable and experimental print, publication and drawing processes that can continue to be explored beyond this three-day course and incorporated into a broader creative practice.
The course will encourage you to discuss and share your outcomes with the group, reflecting on new approaches and developing critical Fine Art discourse. Introduction to Fine Art: Print, Publication & Drawing is a great opportunity for those looking to expand their knowledge of process, explore concepts and ideas in an Fine Art context, and make considered work for inclusion in a portfolio.
Day 1: Hi Fi / Low Fi – Today participants will be guided through two workshops, monoprinting and experimental book making. These workshops will allow participants to develop precision and technique in print based processes as well as building on intuitive and fast paced image making and publication design.
Day 2: Print and Drawing as Process and Concept – This day will be hands–on but conceptually–led: participants will engage in in–depth discussions about the role of drawing and printed matter in everyday life and in art–making. Through a series of guided fast–paced activities we will explore how drawing and DIY printing processes can be used to explore themes of mapping, archives, movement and emotion, building on critical thinking, material process and conceptual skills.
Day 3: Facing Out – Participants will explore alternative methods of dissemination of work beyond the gallery context. Engaging with a broad range of methods participants will develop new text and language pieces into refined publications. Participants will share their new edition between the group and show an exhibition of work produced throughout the week. The day will culminate with a final informal review to reinforce themes discussed and celebrate the hard work done throughout the course.
