A 2-hour evening session to learn basic bike maintenance. Learn to look after your bike, mend a puncture and adjust brakes.
Join our 2-hour cycle maintenance workshop to build up essential cycle maintenance skills. You will develop the skills needed to make a full diagnostic check of your bike and learn essential adjustments as well as some repairs. Our courses are for a maximum of 5 people so early bookings are recommended. The event is open to Kingston University Staff and Students only.
Course Content
• Checking key parts of your bike for wear and tear, using the simple 5 minute assessment system employed by professional bike mechanics!
• Adjusting and balancing your brakes and replacing your brake pads
• Making some minor adjustments which will give you a more comfortable riding experience
• Removing your rear wheel, inner-tube, and tyre and repairing a puncture
• Cleaning and caring for your bike
• What you need in a basic tool kit
• Gear adjustments if time permits
What to bring:
• Your bike (bring along your mountain bike, road bike, e-bike, hybrid bike etc)
• Water (refreshments are not provided)
Please note that this is a free event (usually costing £20 per person) and subsidised by the Estates and Sustainability team. If you are unable to attend the event, please cancel your ticket as soon as you know that you cannot attend so that your space can be offered to someone on the waiting list. A minimum of 3 people are needed for the course to run and the University retains the right to cancel the event up to 48 hours before the event.
