‘Yellowface’ serves as a powerful lesson for us all about ambition, authenticity, and the perils of trying to assume an identity that isn’t one’s own. Kuang’s novel invites readers to reflect on the costs of self-deception, privilege, and the complex interplay between race, art, and cultural ownership. As a consequence of its critical conclusion, Kuang also forces readers to acknowledge the visceral impact of cancel culture, as June has to face society's wrath and her own moral compromises. ‘Yellowface’ has been the subject of much discussion and makes the perfect novel to discuss with fellow readers.

Please join us to share your thoughts and opinions about ‘Yellowface’ at our next virtual reading group session on 28th November, 5-6pm. To take part in our November reading group session, please contact Karen on K.Lipsedge@Kingston.ac.uk
