New online training courses have been launched to help students protect data and counter cyber security threats.
The courses include a combined data protection and cyber security introduction course, advanced data protection and advanced cyber security training plus tailored courses for those who manage research projects and for those on placements.
The training uses animation in bite sized modules that can be completed on laptops, mobile phones or tablets at a time that suits. You'll receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.

How to complete the courses:
You will need to press the arrow button to play each video and you can pause the video if you wish to take notes; the course will not play automatically
You need to watch each video to the end and pass the quiz to complete the course, or your record will be incomplete
On the right hand-side panel titled Course Contents you can see in the circle below what percentage of the course you have completed. You need to complete 100 per cent
When you have played each video to the end, the round button to the left of each video title switches from grey to green indicating you have completed that video
Transcripts: Transcripts can be downloaded by selecting the Transcript button to the right of the video in the description section; the transcript will then download immediately. However, if you choose to read a transcript, you will still need to play the video in order to complete the course although you can, of course, switch the volume off
Subtitles: You can switch subtitles on by selecting the cc (closed captions) button.
The quiz
- Scroll down after watching each video to the end to complete the quiz
- There are 10 questions in each quiz and the pass mark is 80%. Note, there are 12 questions in the data protection training for researchers. If you fail a question, you will see the correct answer. If you fail the quiz, you will be able to retake it until you pass. You will see your pass mark after you complete the quiz.
- Once you receive your certificate, you are no longer able to see your pass mark but you will have passed the course as you received the certificate. Note, if you skip any videos to go straight to the quiz it will not be recorded that you have completed the course due to the fact you need to watch each video to the end
Course certificate:
- The certificate is generated automatically when you have successfully completed the quiz
- See the options at the top of the Certificate which are highlighted below in yellow to download/print. Alternatively, to access your certificate:
- From End User home
- Click on name at top right > View Profile
- Select My Training
- Select Completed
- Click on (trophy pic) CERTIFICATE
